The temperature responsive capillary tube type element is basically a closed pressure vessel. It consists of a bellows that can expand and contract, a capillary tube that acts as a connecting link between the bellows and a bulb, and usually a bulb that is the sensing element. Standard series temperature switches are furnished with a 5’ capillary. Optional 10’, 15’, and 25’ capillaries are available. Order as listed below:

A temperature sensor such as a thermometer, thermocouple, or resistance temperature detector is inserted in the open end of the tube, which is usually in the open air outside the process piping or vessel and any thermal insulation.
